Afterlife, The Quiet , is one of the more interesting projects from my repertoire; largely due to the circumstances that we all faced when I wrote it. It is 2020, and most of the countries in the world (barring Sweden) have thrown away their pandemic preparedness plans and elected to follow the example of the totalitarian state we call China. A barrage of nonsensical rules is disseminated to confused households. People are denied the right to be with their loved ones as they die in hospitals; most from pre-exisitng conditions. Governments are giving daily updates which amount to little more than stay at home and wash your hands. Meanwhile, designer medical masks are all the rage.
With the benefit of hindsight, the resulting confusion and carnage is clear. Those decisons led to hundreds of eminent medical professionals, academics, scientists and anybody else who dared to question the mainstream narrative losing their jobs. Informed voices were shut down from posting on social media who, in league, with govts worldwide censored any awkward questions. Communities became horribly divided and everyday people were understandably, very frightened. The vociferous virtue signallers treated former friends and neighbours with suspicion and contempt.
The wounds were not quick to heal and the fall out is still being felt. It seems that while all of this was going on, govt ministers, spin doctors and heads of state blatantly ignored their own rules. It was as if they were not at all frightened of the new terror being pushed by their own mainstream media; themselves fed by the government funded nudge dept of fear and loathing.
Companies like Amazon thrived whilst many small businesses died. (Over five hundred thousand in the UK alone). There was no rhyme or reason to any of this madness. Take a look at Sweden. If everything purported to be fact had been true, it should be little more than a ghost town, ravaged by a pandemic that they chose to ignore. In fact, they have suffered no adverse effects from their brave stance.
Afterlife The Quiet – How it emerged
It was with this backdrop that “The Quiet” was conceived. The world is comparatively quiet where I live, so I am used to solitude. However, after absolute silence for almost 6 months I felt a blues coming on. It was a natural progression to embrace the blues. I sent the backing track to Tudor (who co wrote and played horn on “Blue Bar“).
He nailed the horn part beautifully. With the track complete, I set about making the video. I picked footage from stock used for various adverts globally and in particular, images that referenced some of the strange behaviour frightened people get up to. Naturally, the ending had to evoke those feelings of waking up from a bad dream.
I remember the old phrase “united we stand, divided we fall”. There is no doubt that communities worldwide have felt division over their opinions of the world since 2020. A lot more people are waking up to the tricks of a greedy state and some people say that it’s all a part of a great awakening. I sincerely hope so.
Humanity can do much better if we love and care for each other. so long as those that we vote into power share that true love. We shall see…
One Love
